چکیده

This work presents an infrastructure that simplifies the development of distributed applications that can adapt automatically to nonfunctional properties of their components and of their execution environment. This infrastructure, based on the programming language Lua and on CORBA, allows applications to select dynamically the components that best suit their requirements, to verify whether the system is satisfying these requirements, and to react, when appropriate, to variations in the nonfunctional properties of the services in use. We use CORBA’s Trading Service to support dynamic component selection. An extensible monitoring facility supports monitoring of dynamically defined requirements. We use the Lua language to specify adaptation strategies, and a smart proxy mechanism to apply these strategies. The paper also describes a programming example based on the proposed infrastructure. Keywords—dynamic adaptation, distributed auto-adaptive systems, middleware, CORBA, component-based applications, nonfunctional requirements.

Adaptive Dynamic Data Placement Algorithm for Hadoop in Heterogeneous Environments

Hadoop MapReduce framework is an important distributed processing model for large-scale data intensive applications. The current Hadoop and the existing Hadoop distributed file system’s rack-aware data placement strategy in MapReduce in the homogeneous Hadoop cluster assume that each node in a cluster has the same computing capacity and a same workload is assigned to each node. Default Hadoop d...

Intelligent Auto pilot Design for a Nonlinear Model of an Autonomous Helicopter by Adaptive Emotional Approach

There is a growing interest in the modeling and control of model helicopters using nonlinear dynamic models and nonlinear control. Application of a new intelligent control approach called Brain Emotional Learning Based Intelligent Controller (BELBIC) to design autopilot for an autonomous helicopter is addressed in this paper. This controller is applied to a nonlinear model of a helicopter. This...

On the Study of Dynamic and Adaptive Dependable Distributed Systems

Due to the usage of MANETs and some kinds of collaborative applications (P2P), current distributed systems are becoming increasingly dynamic; i.e., it is difficult to manage membership information and to forecast the accessibility of each system node. Moreover, dependable applications for static distributed systems also need to provide good adaptability levels (to different request arrival rate...

Building Auto-Adaptive Distributed Applications: The QuO-APOD Experience

Exploiting autonomic adaptation in defending a distributed application is a relatively new research area. We describe how the QuO adaptive middleware was used to implement auto-adaptive defenses ranging from simple rapidresponse sensor-actuator tactics to more sophisticated containment and outrun strategies. In addition, we report on two experiments where live red team attacks were used to eval...
